Terms of Service

1. About Strands

Strands (“Strands,” “we,” “us”) is a link-in-bio platform operated by Nicholas Horn. Strands lets creators build a public profile page out of links and content blocks, publish it to a personal subdomain, and share short links that route visitors to their content. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Strands, including the website, published profile pages, and any short links created through the service (together, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

2. Your Account

You must provide accurate information when creating an account and keep your login credentials secure. You’re responsible for all activity that happens under your account, including anything published under a username you claim. You must be old enough to lawfully use online services in your jurisdiction, and you agree to comply with applicable law and our content and conduct standards whenever you use the Service.

You may not use automated tools to scrape, crawl, or otherwise mass-collect data from the Service, and you may not attempt to access another user’s account or profile data without authorization.

3. Your Content

You retain ownership of the links, text, images, and other content you add to your profile (“Your Content”). By publishing Your Content through Strands, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, and publicly display Your Content solely as necessary to operate, publish, and distribute your profile page as part of the Service. This license ends when you remove that content or delete your account, except where a copy reasonably persists in routine backups for a limited period.

A published profile page is, by design, publicly accessible at your chosen subdomain to anyone with the link — don’t publish anything you don’t want to be publicly visible. You’re solely responsible for Your Content and for having the rights necessary to post it.

If your profile collects visitor information (for example, an email-signup block), you’re responsible for complying with applicable privacy and marketing laws with respect to that data, including obtaining any consent those laws require.

4. Prohibited Uses

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Infringe another party’s intellectual property or other legal rights;
  • Publish content that is unlawful, fraudulent, or intentionally misleading or deceptive;
  • Distribute malware, run phishing schemes, or otherwise compromise the security of visitors or the Service;
  • Register or hold a username primarily to resell it or to block someone else’s legitimate use of it (username squatting);
  • Manipulate, mask, or falsify a short link’s true destination, or use short links to disguise spam, malware, or phishing links;
  • Artificially inflate clicks, visits, or other engagement metrics through bots, click farms, or self-referral schemes; or
  • Attempt to bypass rate limits, moderation controls, or other technical restrictions we put in place.

We may remove content or restrict a profile that violates this section without prior notice, particularly where needed to protect the safety of visitors or the integrity of the Service.

5. Subscriptions and Billing

Building and editing a profile is free. Publishing it live requires an active paid subscription. Subscriptions are billed in advance on a recurring basis (monthly or annually, as selected) through our payment processor and renew automatically until canceled. You’re responsible for any taxes associated with your subscription and for keeping your payment method current. You can cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and fees already paid are non-refundable except where required by law.

6. Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account or a specific profile if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or to protect the Service or its users from harm. We may also reclaim a username or deactivate a free account that has had no login activity for an extended period, after reasonable notice where practical.

You may stop using the Service or delete your account at any time. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends, published profile pages and short links stop resolving, and we may delete Your Content; we’re not obligated to retain or return it after termination. Fees already paid are non-refundable.

7. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We don’t warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that any short link will resolve indefinitely if its underlying destination changes or is removed by its owner.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Strands and its operators won’t be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or (b) $100 USD.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold Strands harmless from any claim, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from Your Content, your use of the Service, or your violation of these Terms.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make a material change, we’ll provide reasonable notice (such as an email or an in-product notice) before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.

11. Governing Law and Disputes

Before starting a formal legal proceeding, you agree to first contact us and attempt to resolve the dispute informally in good faith for at least 30 days. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and any dispute not resolved informally will be brought exclusively in the courts located there.
